Sharting in the Movies …
Certain farts didn’t, ahem, make The List for a plain and simple reason: They turn to shit. But the shart has left fecal analysts baffled. The scatalogical phenomenon, you see, does not belong to any particular phase of matter. It’s a scatological entity in limbo – neither a gas nor solid, neither flushable nor easily extinguished by Lysol. Here’s a quick primer on how certain cinematic beings have handled their sharting moments.
Modest: In the 2004 comedy, Along Came Polly, Sandy Lyle (Philip Seymour Hoffman) committed a raunchy one at a cocktail party, where he shamefully confides he “tried to fart, and a little shit came out.” Sandy begged that that he and his wingman (Ben Stiller) leave the soiree immediately so that he may change his drawers.
Proud: In an effort to smog the dining room with his country kitchen flatulence, The Nutty Professor’s Cletus Klump pushed the air too hard and subsequently “done messed up” his pants, or so he announced to the entire family before excusing himself.
Fetishist: In Road Trip, An overtly friendly server (Horatio Sanz) at a roadhouse greasy spoon fixes up some French toast real good. After licking the sugar off each piece, he shoves the slices of bread into his britches where he releases one mean quacker. It’s uncertain, really, as to what exactly came out in the man’s pants, but I’d like to think it was a bit on the wet side.
